The Benefits of Creativity-Give yourself the gift of "Showing Up" to create

The details…they all come when I’m in the zone of play; when I’m not ready to stop. Layer after layer they add interest and dimension. I can only get to this place by not forgetting ONE thing-Show up!

It’s really hard these days to get “in the zone” with a painting, but SHOWING UP is the first step. I’ve been at this for years now, but this is one key step I forget often. The benefits of Showing Up to create are much more than ending up with a beautiful painting.

I'm passionate about how we are all Created to Create-read more HERE. This concept is further solidified by the benefits creating. I've experienced so many in my life, and so of many of them are backed by science.

Here's a collection of key benefits of creativity that I've gathered from various sources on the internet:

Mental health
Creativity can help with depression and anxiety by providing a positive outlet for self-expression and emotional processing. According to the National Library of Medicine, various mainstream medicine and psychology now advocate art therapy as a valid treatment for mental health.

Cognitive enhancement:
Creative activity stimulates the brain, promoting neuroplasticity and improving cognitive functions like memory, attention, and problem-solving. Studies even suggest that engaging in creative activities may contribute to maintaining cognitive function in older adults, potentially reducing the risk of dementia.

Stress reduction:
Having a bad day? Creating can act as a relaxing activity, lowering stress levels and promoting a sense of calm. Engaging in creative activities can trigger the release of dopamine, a neurotransmitter associated with pleasure and reward, contributing to positive emotions.

Increased resilience:
Creativity can help individuals adapt to challenges and find new solutions to problems, making them more resilient in difficult situations.

Enhanced self-esteem:
Creating something new and expressing oneself through creativity can lead to increased feelings of accomplishment and self-worth.

Positive social impact:
Creativity can foster collaboration and innovation within teams, leading to more effective problem-solving and positive outcomes in various fields.

How have you seen creativity impact your life? I'd love to hear more details about the benefits you've experienced.
